Katee was born Kathryn Ann Sackhoff on April 8, 1980 in Portland Oregon. She has an older sister, Mylisa, and brother, Erick. Her father Dennis is a constractor and land developer and her mother Mary is a retired schoolteacher. At the age of six, she started participating in dance classes as well as drama classes. She later went to star in many of her high school's productions, including Bye Bye Birdie, Oliver and Fiddler on the Roof.
A competitive swimmer, Katee dreamed of going to Standford and swimming in the Olympics, a dream that ended when she suffered a serious knee injury at the age of 15. She had to change her plans, and Katee has said that she decided to try the most difficult thing she could think of, which was going to Hollywood and succeed as an actress.
Taking her acting a step futher, Katee made her way to the small screen when she took on the role of a teenage mother in the movie Fifteen and Pregnant, starring Kirsten Dunst. She later followed up with the role of Mary in the USA original movie Hefner: Unauthorized along with Rebecca Herbst. In 2000, Katee appeared as a full-fledged cast member of the Fox Family Channel series The Featuring Mind, in which she played Lenore, the daughter of horror author Bill Fearing. In 2001, Katee won the role of Jenna Danzing in the eighth movie of the Halloween series, Halloween: Resurrection. Katee also got the role of Nell Bickford on the CBS series The Education of Max Bickford.
In addition to her starring roles, Katee has made quest appearances on shows such as Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, ER, Cold Case, and multiple appearances on MTV's Undressed.
Katee now stars on the hit series Battlestar Galactica as Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace. The series was launched as re-imaging of the original 1978 series as a mini-series in 2003. Katee got a lot heat for playing the now female role of Starbuck who was originally played by Dirk Benedict. Now on it's 3rd season Katee has become a fan favorite.
In 2004 she was nominated for a Saturn Award in the "Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series" category for her portrayal of Thrace on the Battlestar Galactica miniseries. In May 2006, she won the Saturn Award for the same role on the Battlestar Galactica series. She had been concurrently nominated in the "Best Supporting Actress on Television" category.
During the break between seasons two and three of Battlestar Galactica, Katee managed to film two films. In the first, an independent science fiction action film called The Last Sentinel, Katee co-stars withmartial arts legend Don 'The Dragon' Wilson, and got to do almost all of her own stunts. The second, White Noise: The Light,is a horror film in which Katee co-stars with fellow science fiction favorite Nathan Fillion. Both films are expected to come out in early 2007.
Katee has two dogs, a pug/chihuahua mix called Meatball and a pug puppy named Nelly B. She lives in northern Washington State near the Canadian border and also owns a house in Los Angeles. In her spare time, Katee says that she enjoys watching movies, hanging out with friends, working out, and playing pool, among other things.
